The result is like looking through a piece of broken glass, or like stained glass.

I frequently visit the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and one of the highlights there is something called Raptor Free Flight. Harris Hawks, this barn owl, another owl and a raven all fly free and have been trained to swoop in and grab a juicy tidbit (probably a dead mouse) from the handler. This one, with its lovely heart-shaped face, was thoughtful enough to pose for an instant so I could get a picture. It's always a thrill to watch them.

Lovely Granny Smith apple - tart, crisp, mouth-watering delicious. And a pleasure to paint. I used manganese blue and cadmium yellow light to get those yummy greens.

This is a bit of a change from the splashy style of the

oranges and apples. There must be something about using

lots of different colors that puts me in a playful mood.

I held the values more carefully this time - didn't splash

the colors around as much. I had never heard

of Opal as a variety of apple before - it's quite tasty.
